Black Child Foundation making a difference
Insight recently had a chat with communications officer of Black Child Foundation Thamsanqa Ngubeni. The foundation is based in Newcastle KwaZulu Natal.
A project that was formulated by Sicelo Ndwandwe in
2017 and he is also the chairperson of the foundation. Ndwandwe decided to look
for people who are making a difference in the community of Newcastle and he
started off with a team of ten members but now they are currently six as others
decided to pursue other business interests.

The foundation has been in existence for three years
and it is a non-funded organisation as they don’t have main sponsors but rely
on local business people for assistance when they have a certain project to
pursue.
Ngubeni says “The foundation comprises of different
projects such as the Kasi2Kasi colour run as their healthy lifestyle programme,
encouraging people to maintain a healthy lifestyle, as well as raising funds in order to
pursue other projects within the organisation.”

The foundation is doing its part to raise awareness
on Gender Based Violence (GBV) against women and children and most recently to help
struggling residences by providing food parcels during this difficult time of
Covid-19. It has managed to assist over 900 struggling families; their greatest
support for this project mainly came from former Newcastle Mayor Makhosini
Nkosi, former Amajuba District Mayor and former Newcastle Speaker Jabu Khumalo
(MP), Uzenawe Construction, the Chinese community as well as Audi and VW
(Newcastle).

Black child foundation has also been spotted by
Brand SA on its great community work, Ngubeni says “Brand SA heard of us in
various media platforms and I assume they took interests and that is why they
made contact with us.”
With regards to the future is that they want to grow
as the organisation as they still want proper offices and be able to be in
touch with the community but they are currently available through social media
platforms.
“By the end of 2021 our goal is to grow, to be able
to reach the whole of South Africa and to be able to provide a helping hand to
the less fortunate.” says Ngubeni
